May 25th, 2010
Using your brain to control the environment around you…sound like something out of “The Matrix”? Well it’s the way of the future for Ariel Garten, CEO of InteraXon, a company that’s paving the way for interactive technologies. We met up with Ariel in Toronto at OCE Discovery 2010 where her booth even caught the eye of Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder and OCE Discovery 2010 keynote speaker.
Check out the video to see how visitors to the InteraXon booth – including Angle Media’s own Wes Bos, remotely controlled the lights of the CN tower by simply putting on a headset.
Need help detecting food allergies? Ask an Expert
May 21st, 2010
Todays post is as much about some smart software as it is about our featured expert, Mike Kwiecien. He is responsible for a great new iPhone app called My Food Facts which he just released and we had the opportunity to create a video demo for him. If you or anyone you shop for has food allergies, this is a really smart video to take a look at – his iPhone application will allow you to scan the barcode of an item you are interested in purchasing and then tells you what kind of ingredients it may contain. Even smarter, you can specify what you are allergic to first and then scan away as you shop. Really intelligent idea and possibly a great asset for anyone with health concern like this – so our hat is our off to this expert in detecting food allergies. We plan to have Mike in for an interview soon to hear more about how it all came about.

Modrobes is Saving the Planet – One T-shirt at a time
May 11th, 2010
This week we took a trip down to 620 Queen St. West to chat with Modrobes founder and owner, Steven Sal Debus. Steve’s ambition is to produce functional but stylish clothing made out of entirely organic, recycled or sustainable fabrics. Modrobes was originally notorious for it’s classic wide leg, adjustable waist pant worn by University and College Students across Canada – You know the one’s!
After a four year hiatus Steve went on CBC’s Dragons Den and signed a deal. He is now back in business with a new line of stylish, urban and sports oriented clothing.
What does a jacket made out of of recycled water bottles look like? or a Eucalyptus T-Shirt? Have a look to see how Modrobes is creating – a Smarter, better, cleaner clothing for a smarter, better, cleaner world.
Check out the video below which was created right after his visit to Dragons Den - it shares a bit more about his story and the re-invention of Modrobes as a brand:
‘The Science’ Behind Cosmetics
May 4th, 2010
Iconic Canadian designer and Project Runway Canada mentor, Brian Bailey
has a launched a minimalist cosmetic line. It’s simple and natural from the
rich product array to packaging.
It’s meant for the lady that wants a five minute face. But not for the
lady that requires intense coverage or enjoys exploring through a variety
of products. ‘We wanted to create a cosmetic line that respected the time,
intelligence and beauty of the modern woman,’ says Brian Bailey.
Based on the science of minerals, the products have no fillers like talc
and emulate pure color. Only found on The Shopping Channel, the
collection, of 5 products come in 6 color families and can be purchased
for $99.99. But hold onto your fav mascara, because Bailey is yet to
launch their own.
